Open-Air Events in Vienna 2024

One thing is for sure: Vienna is always a highlight! Austria’s capital city enchants visitors with its culture, classic architecture and excellent coffee houses. In summer, open-air events attract tourists and locals alike. From music and theatre to film and cabaret, there is something for everyone. With so much on offer, it can be difficult to decide which events to attend in Vienna. To make your decision a little easier, we have put together a selection of open-air events for you.

Popfest Wien

The hugely popular Popfest Wien is back at the end of July. For the 15th time, the greats of Austrian pop music will gather for concerts around Karlsplatz. Around 60,000 visitors are expected again this year. Arrive early to make sure you get a good seat.

Vienna Cultural Summer

The Vienna Cultural Summer is one of the absolute highlights of Vienna’s open-air events. True to the theme ‘free and outdoors’, almost 2,000 artists perform at various venues throughout Vienna. Enjoy a colourful potpourri of rock, pop, classical, jazz, theatre, circus, dance and performance.

Sommer Rhapsodie

The Sommer Rhapsodie is a magnificent mix of art and culinary delights set against a truly magical backdrop. In the Garden Palace of Liechtenstein, you have the opportunity to experience a magical programme. Expect interpretations of classics from literature, theatre and cabaret, as well as fantastic musical performances. On some days there is even a special children’s programme with exciting quizzes and children’s operas. This Viennese open-air event is a highlight for the whole family!

Film Festival on the Rathausplatz

This open-air event is a must-see in Vienna: the Film Festival on the Rathausplatz. There are many musical and culinary attractions on offer. Watch concerts, videos and short films by top acts on the big screen. Admission is free, and no matter what you see on the big screen, the Film Festival is definitely one of Vienna’s can’t-miss events!
The Rathausplatz will also be transformed into a real fan arena during the European Football Championship. Here you can watch all the matches of the Austrian team, the semi-finals and the final on the big screen!
